The design for this residence was driven by a primary interest of working outdoors. This focus resulted in small footprint to minimize construction cost with increased sustainability, durability, security, and practicality. The site includes a farm and shop situated on top of a cave system that is fed by an on-site spring. While most activity is centered on the ground floor, private rooms are located on second floor and the basement level. An owner-designed solar heated radiant tube system is incorporated into the perimeter precast concrete walls for heating and cooling the residence and solar panels are installed at the roof of the shop building as a sole source of electricity to the residence and shop. This residence is LEED Platinum certified.
