Greene County Courthouse Expansion
The Greene County Courthouse expansion project repurposes the former Greene County Jail facility to consolidate several courts and their relevant administrative services onto one campus. The former jail now houses Juvenile Administration, Family Courts, and the Greene County Youth Academy. The expansion also allows the County to update features such as courtroom size that will diversify the type of cases they can accommodate and will allow more docket flexibility.
The addition is set in a new public plaza adjacent to the courthouse lawn, and a large, daylit entrance pavilion consolidates public entry into one space with enhanced security screening. Care was taken to make as much use of the existing spaces as possible. Former day rooms were converted into courtrooms, and their existing skylights were maintained to enhance courtroom lighting. Former cells were converted into attorney/client conference rooms, courtroom storage, and restrooms. New finishes throughout the facility bring seamless continuity to the project.
