Macon County Courthouse Expansion
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, special care was taken in addressing the expansion and renovation of the historic courthouse and annex buildings located on Macon’s courthouse square. Renovations to accommodate the courts and sheriff’s office included preservation and restoration of public corridors, ceilings, and material finishes. An addition that spans between the two buildings provides Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access to all county functions and a second addition to the back of the historic courthouse houses a new 48-bed jail facility. The administration building was also renovated to assist in accommodating all county functions on the courthouse square.
